About the role: - Work as a software engineer intern contributing to real-world development projects within the Rakuten ecosystem - Collaborate with engineers across teams to design, build, and deploy features spanning both backend and frontend systems - Write and optimize code while maintaining best practices in software craftsmanship What you'll work on: - Backend systems using one of these languages: Java, PHP, Python, Golang, Scala, or Kotlin - User-facing interfaces with TypeScript and modern frameworks such as React, Svelte, or Next.js - Database design and query optimization, including schema design and normalization principles - Code repositories and version control through Git workflows - Containerized applications and orchestration platforms for deployment What we're looking for: - Bachelor's degree or enrollment in computer science or a closely related field - Hands-on coding experience in at least one of Java, PHP, Python, Golang, Scala, or Kotlin - Frontend development background using TypeScript with exposure to frameworks like React, Svelte, or Next.js - Comfort working in Linux-based environments - Knowledge of database architecture, normalization techniques, and how design choices affect system performance - Familiarity with shell scripting and command-line tools - Experience with SQL for database operations Additional experience valued: - Work with Apache or Tomcat application servers - Spring Framework for Java development - CI/CD pipeline tools and practices - Docker for containerization - Kubernetes for container orchestration - AI tooling workflows and generative AI applications Good to know: - Visa sponsorship is available for eligible candidates
