Our Finance Engineer Summer Internship Programme has been crafted so that you can understand what a career as a Financial Engineer at LSEG would be like. In the internship you will work on projects solving real problems and work as part of a team with experienced engineers.

This position is within the Optimisation Strats Team within the Post Trade Engineering division and will be based in London Office

To be eligible, you should be in the penultimate year of your undergraduate or final year of an Undergraduate degree and plan to continue onto Masters for academic year 2027/28 studying Maths, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science or other quantitative fields.

Internship Summary

The Strats team is responsible for designing, building, implementing and maintaining the algorithms at the heart of our services. This typically involves working on models for linear or convex optimisation problems and interpreting the solution of those problems as a set of financial transactions that should be executed to improve some aspect of a derivatives portfolio. It also involves implementing all the data pre-processing logic as well as the postprocessing validation checks and proposal generations, which require the handling of large data sets.

The successful candidate will work as part of a small team of 4-6 financial engineers to design and implement improvements to our optimisation services. They will work directly with the Product Development team to enhance the product, based on feedback from clients and analysis of runs, as well as on strategic projects.

Examples of possible projects include:

Developing a new scaling scheme to improve reliability and performance
Introducing a mix integer model to achieve rounded solutions
Investigating how sensitive the solution is to small changes in the data to understand which constraints we should relax for maximum impact.
Refactoring some parts of the code to share functionality and business logic across assets
Improving the runtime performance by investigating and adding heuristics to reduce the data set and solution search space.
Developing new functionality to better validate incoming client data prior to optimisation.

What we are looking for:

We are passionate about recruiting people who are interested in pursuing a career within Financial Engineering and would like to learn about the full breadth of our business – and are interested in playing a part of our development, as it grows and diversifies.

Experience with python and ideally familiarity with pandas and numpy
A strong mathematical background (numerical methods, linear algebra, probability & statistics)
Basic understanding of linear and/or mixed integer programming and convex optimisation
Excellent problem-solving skills
Knowledge of basic financial products is a plus
Familiarity with UNIX is desired but not required
Ideal candidates will have the rights to work in the New York or London without restrictions for the duration of the internship programme

You will stand out to us if you can demonstrate and recognise that what you achieve is equally important as how you achieve it.

Applications close: 30th November, We recommend an early application because we consider candidates on a rolling basis and may close applications early.

Recruitment Process:

The first stage of the recruitment process involves making an application and submitting your resume.
The second stage is completing Technical and Coding Assessment. This technical assessment is designed to evaluate your coding ability, logical reasoning and problem-solving skills.
The next stage of the application process is an untimed Immersive Online Assessment. The assessment is designed to give you an insight into what it’s like to work at LSEG.
The third stage is a video interview where you will answer a series of questions using a strength-based-interview style
The final stage is a virtual half day assessment centre which involves several different types of exercises – further information is provided at the point of invite.
